WHL holds 21st Annual Referee Training Camp
Calgary -- The Western Hockey League will be conducting the 21ST Annual
Referee Training Camp beginning on Friday, August 17th, 2001 in Calgary,
Alberta.
The three day session will consist of 28 WHL Referees and five WHL
Supervisors taking part in on-ice training, classroom seminars and fitness
testing. The on-ice session will consist of skating skills and tests. The
classroom seminars will focus on rules, rule changes and areas of emphasis.
The Referee Training Camp will be conducted by the Western Hockey League
Director of Officiating Kevin Muench, a new position created by the WHL on
July 5th, and Darren Loraas, the Western Hockey League Officiating
Development Coordinator.
Guests that will attend and speak at the Referee Training Camp will include
Ron Robison, Commissioner, Western Hockey League; Richard Doerksen,
Vice-President - Hockey Operations, Western Hockey League; Dave Baker,
Technical Manager - Officiating, National Hockey League; and Norm Dueck,
Manager - Officiating, Canadian Hockey Association.
