Feasting on candy-coated bugs, learning about creepy crawly critters, chimps and pirates can keep the kids busy this March break.
Delicacies such as chocolate cricket clusters, anty floss and roasted mealworm fudge will be served up by Creepy Crawly chef Jeff Stewart at the Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory (www.wingsofparadise.com) in Cambridge.
Yum, candyland bugs -- high in protein and low in fat.
BugFeast: Candyland is the theme for events March 7-16 and insect treats are included with admission at the conservatory at 2500 Kossuth Rd.
Visitors learn about butterfly metamorphosis while watching them emerge from their chrysalides.
INSECTS WEAVE THEIR WEBS
Creepy, crawly critters have taken over the London Regional Children's Museum (www.londonchildrensmuseum.ca) and there's an exhibition of butterflies from Wings and Paradise on March 8 at 1 p.m.
"The itsy bitsy spider and a variety of other insects weave their webs and cast their cocoons at the Children's Museum in the Magic of Insects exhibit," said Jo Jennings, communications co-ordinator.
During March Break Bonanza, from March 10 to 23, watch out for Snake Lady Val Williams at the museum at 21 Wharncliffe Rd. S.
She arrives with critters including snakes, spiders and insects on March 15 at 1:15 p.m., while magician Captain Corbin entertains March 8 and 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The insect show from the Insectarium de Montreal has live specimens along with photographic enlargements that allow you to experience their microscopic world.
GOODALL'S JUNGLE HOME RE-CREATED
Children can learn to walk and talk like a chimp at the Children's Museum (www.thechildrensmuseum.ca) in Kitchener.
Discovering Chimpanzees takes visitors to the world of primatologist Jane Goodall who has researched these interesting and entertaining primates for 40 years.
After passing a giant waterfall, visitors enter Gombe National Park, the jungle environment of the chimps.
Goodall's Gombe jungle home is authentically re-created and vintage film footage tells of her achievements while customized computers create an interactive environment in four separately themed areas.
The museum at 10 King St. W. also hosts An Evening with Jane Goodall May 12 at the Centre in the Square.
